Going Home

by sander24. June 2010 14:24

On the 21th, this Monday, I went home. Caught an airplane at 8 pm (Taiwan time) from Taoyuan International Airport and thereby ended my exchange. Don't think that's going to be the end of my writing though. I have lots of things I still need to scribble down while it's still easy for me to recall it, and have to admit: I made a lot of promises about subjects I would cover later in some of my posts that I still need to fulfill. Besides: I have lots of Danish culture to cover too, especially here in this active summer vacation.

Just an hour or two before I was leaving, it started raining surprisingly hard. I noticed while driving towards the highway that there was somewhere around 10 to 20 cm of water in the streets that hadn't sneaked into the sewers yet. I took this picture from my room just before leaving. 1/500 sec shutterspeed and you can actually catch some water droplets.

That's most of the stuff that I packed there. In it there's a monster wireless router with built-in NAS and up to 300MB/s speed along with some other fancy stuff. I'm on it's network right now, writing this.

All of this stuff, I threw out. Or well, I left it there so I guess my host family will throw it out and give the clothes away. I'm sorry to leave it messy like this, but all of a sudden, we had to hurry a lot.

And there's my goodbye party. Not a big one, but that's okay. My counsellor was taking this picture, so he was there too. (He had to give me my passport and money back.)
But I was only in the airport for a few hours. After I went into the departure area, I had an hour to wait for the flight to accept boarding, which I used to eat one last miso lamian (the dish they call ramen in Japan). Also had a can of Kirin beer. I heard Japanese beer was good from Taiwanese, but I guess they might've referred more to Asahi, which I haven't tried yet.

3-4 hours of flying later and I took some picture of Bangkok, Thailand, with my camera, using ISO-12800. Noise levels very bad. Taiwan looked much nicer with it's lights when I took off, (way more people are cramped together in that place,) but I had put my camera away and couldn't exactly leave my seat to get it in the middle of take off.

I was going to transfer in Bangkok, because there's no direct flights between Taiwan and Denmark, so I waited there for two and a half hour. All the way back to Denmark, I didn't take a single picture. Hadn't much to take pictures of of course. It was about 10 hours I think. Less than expected. In flight I talked with a swedish guy who had worked in Thailand for the last year and was also moving home now. Hadn't talked Danish for such a long time, it took me a while to realise that it was Swedish he was speaking and not Danish. Haha.
There were also a danish pair who just had just been on a trip to celebrate their wedding anniversary who had a daughter living in Turkey. Globalization sure is getting to all of us.

And then, about 8 am next day (Danish time) I was back in Denmark. About 18 hours of travel but with with a 6 hours discount.

Later I'm going to write about danish culture and events. There's a lot to cover I realised, but first I'll have to finish a few of posts about Taiwan that I have decided to wait with because other, more important things came up all of a sudden.

To all those who might be exchange students or other sputniks who haven't gone home yet: Safe travels and I hope you'll have nice final times in your host countries.
